Determines sediment content of crude oil and fuel oils by extraction with toluene. The sample is placed in a refractory thimble and washed with condensed toluene vapours leaving only insoluble matter, the residue is calculated as a percentage of the total mass.
Comprises a tinned copper condenser coil, alumina refractory thimble of porous grade and an Erlenmeyer flask of one litre capacity.
