All Type B2 Biosafety Cabinets rely on external blowers (usually rooftop) to exhaust 100% of the air entering the cabinet. If the exhaust blower fails or is mistakenly turned off, the cabinet may become pressurized, causing contaminated air to flow from the work area into the laboratory. A risk assessment should be performed regarding the type of work in the cabinet to address unintended exhaust loss.
