GUNT Precipitation And Flocculation Trainer For Water Treatment

GUNT demonstrates the removal of dissolved substances by precipitation and flocculation with subsequent sedimentation.

Product Features

  • GUNT produces raw water containing dissolved metal (e.g. iron) in a tank
  • A pump transports the raw water to the precipitation tank where a precipitant (e.g. caustic soda) is added
  • Reaction between dissolved metal ions and precipitant forms insoluble metal hydroxides (solids)
  • The water then flows into a flocculation tank divided into three chambers
  • Coagulant is added in the first chamber to cancel repulsive forces between solid particles, promoting coagulation
  • A flocculant is added in the second chamber to generate larger flocs
  • The third chamber has low flow velocities to prevent turbulence, aiding floc formation
  • The sedimentable flocs are separated from the treated water using a lamella separator
  • Treated water and sedimented flocs (sludge) are collected in separate tanks
  • Flow rate, temperature, and pH value are measured; pH in precipitation tank is controllable
  • Conductivity is measured using an external meter
  • Samples can be taken at all relevant points
  • The tank cover is transparent for easy inspection of treated water
  • Analysis technology is required to evaluate experiments, depending on substances used
  • Common coagulants include trivalent metallic salts; common flocculants are organic polymers

Benefits

  • GUNT demonstrates combined processes of precipitation, flocculation, and sedimentation
  • Enables study of coagulation and flocculation kinetics and their impact on sedimentation
  • Provides control and measurement of key parameters including pH, temperature, and flow
