GUNT Gas Cyclone Trainer, Solid-Gas Separation, Tangential Inlet, Primary Vortex, Adjustable Airflow, Filter System

The GUNT Gas Cyclone Trainer demonstrates the principle of solid-gas separation using centrifugal forces. Developed in collaboration with the Institute for Solids Process Engineering and Particle Technology at TU Hamburg-Harburg, this low-maintenance system allows hands-on experimentation with cyclone separation processes. A disperser finely mixes solid particles (e.g., quartz powder) into an airstream, which is fed tangentially into the cyclone to separate coarse and fine materials. Ideal for educational and research environments, the trainer includes full control of airflow and pressure measurements for analysis of cyclone performance.

Product Features

  • Designed for solid-gas separation using centrifugal cyclone principles
  • Developed in cooperation with TU Hamburg-Harburg
  • Low-maintenance design with no moving parts
  • Suitable for operation with high-temperature gases
  • Disperser finely mixes feed solids (e.g., quartz powder) into air stream
  • Air-solid mixture (raw gas) introduced tangentially at the top of the cyclone
  • Formation of a downward primary vortex and an upward secondary vortex
  • Coarse solids collected at the bottom of the cyclone; fine particles exit through immersion tube
  • Fine particles are separated downstream via integrated filter system
  • Adjustable solid content using disperser and air flow valve
  • Room air filtered before entering disperser to avoid contamination
  • Fan generates controlled airflow through the system
  • Pressure measurement points allow analysis of pressure loss at key locations
  • Separation size and efficiency can be evaluated with external analysis equipment

Benefits

  • Real-world demonstration of gas cyclone separation mechanisms
  • Hands-on learning with adjustable parameters and direct observation
  • Understand primary and secondary vortex flow behavior and separation efficiency
  • Ideal for laboratory instruction in fluid mechanics, particle technology, and environmental engineering
  • Supports theoretical analysis of cut size using diffraction spectrometry
